A Google Cloud Networking incident crippled internet users in the US. and Europe on Sunday as they tried to access social media and video platforms.
YouTube and Snapchat were among the most prominent sites affected by the outage.
YouTube users initially began to report outages shortly before 2 p.m. CDT Sunday.
The outage reports were most pronounced along the East Coast early Sunday afternoon, though some West Coast users were reporting outages as well.
Users were also reporting problems accessing Snapchat and Gmail on Sunday and within an hour, Google indicated a ‘larger network issue’ was at play.
YouTube did not immediately release any information about the cause of the outage or an estimate for when the site might return to normal functionality.
The @TeamYouTube account acknowledged the problems that users were having and promised to pass them along to their development team.
Shortly after 4 p.m. CDT, YouTube appeared to be returning to normal functionality and reports of outages started to diminish.
Users, as usual, took to Twitter to air their grievances.
This is a developing story, return for updates
