A company that makes computer systems for medical and industrial uses is expanding its presence in Charlotte. Mecklenburg County’s economic development office announced late last week that Teguar Corp. plans to build a new 20,000-square-foot facility within city limits, representing a $5.5 million investment. The project will retain 29 existing jobs and support the addition of 26 positions over five years, according to the county’s news release.

“We are happy to announce the retention and expansion of Teguar Corporation’s headquarters,” said George Dunlap, chairman of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners, in the release. “We look forward to seeing Teguar continue to grow in Mecklenburg County, bringing new investment and diversified jobs in the tech sector.”

The company is in line for incentives to support the expansion, including a potential $82,587 Business Investment Program grant from the county and a city grant of $46,602, pending approval by those respective governments. In addition, the company is receiving funds through the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina to develop customized training with the state’s community college system.

This marks the latest of several tech-centric job announcements in the Queen City in recent months.

In other news, the Salisbury Post reports the developers behind a planned 400-acre, 65-megawatt solar farm in Rowan County have withdrawn the proposal. The decision comes after the project had run into some opposition from local residents.
