One pioneering restaurant closed and five newcomers joined Nashville’s dining scene in June, including a downtown hot chicken eatery and an East Nashville tiki bar.
JUNE OPENINGS
O-Ku
Charleston-based sushi restaurant O-Ku made its Nashville debut, opening an upscale eatery in Germantown. The O-Ku menu showcases rare and unique seafood from the finest fish markets in Tokyo and Hawaii, according to its website. Options include sushi, sashimi and nigiri, hot entrees and other dishes that celebrate Asian cuisine, including Hawaiian poke tuna, wagyu tartare and O-Ku rock shrimp. Beverage offerings include cocktails, beer, wine, sake and nigori.

Music City Chicken Co.

A newcomer to the downtown dining scene, Music City Chicken Co. serves hot chicken and southern fare, including pork rinds, hot chicken po boys, crawfish po boys, hot chicken salad, prime rib dip, chicken fried steak biscuit, collard greens, tater tots and fried okra.

Chopper

Tiki bars are all the rage right now, and East Nashville newcomer Chopper delivers on the re-emerging trend. Barista Parlor owner Andy Mumma, Bryce McCloud of Isle of Printing and talented bartender Mike Wolf teamed up to open the bar, which serves a plethora of frozen drinks, blended drinks, daiquiris and coolers, alongside bar snacks such as nori grilled cheese and coconut chicken rice bowls.

Crab Fever

A San Diego-based eatery specializing in Louisiana-style seafood combos is now serving oysters, lobster rolls, grilled shrimp tacos, Cajun seafood fettuccine pasta and boil specialties in Midtown. Plans are in the works to open a Crab Fever outpost at Stones River Town Centre in Murfreesboro.

Mane & Rye Dinerant

West End Avenue’s Hutton Hotel debuted a new restaurant concept, Mane & Rye Dinerant. The casual eatery serves elevated diner classics with breakfast all day, boozy milkshakes, homemade pies, an extensive whiskey program and retro games. Expect menu items such as a short rib hash, sour cream pancakes, chop salad, a burger with Porter Road Butcher beef, turkey reuben and chicken-fried steak.

JUNE CLOSINGS
Flyte World Dining & Wine closed after nearly 13 years in the Gulch. The closure coincided with the departure of executive chef Chris Stallard, who moved to Florida with his fiance for her surgical fellowship.
