Q: What is being built at Park Shore Plaza across from the new Starbucks and Tide cleaners?
— Pat B., Naples
A: Construction began in February in the parking lot of Park Shore Plaza in Naples for a free-standing building that will be home to Duck Donuts and Tipsy Salonbar. Tenants in the new 4,000-square-foot outparcel could open as early as this fall.
“We plan on delivering the spaces to Duck Donuts and Tipsy Salon in the second quarter of 2019. Then, they will do their work and open,” said Kristen Moore, a spokeswoman for Brixmor Property Group, the owner of the shopping center.

The building is under construction between McDonald’s and Fresh Market west of Park Shore Plaza’s entrance off Old Trail Drive. Tipsy Salonbar, a full-service salon that serves beer and wine to its customers, will have a 2,800-square-foot unit, while Duck Donuts will occupy the remaining 1,200-square-foot space across the street from the Starbucks and Tide Dry Cleaners businesses.
The first regional location of Duck Donuts opened in January 2018 at Coconut Point mall in Estero. Another location of the made-to-order doughnut chain is planned in Daniels Crossing retail center on the southwest corner of Daniels Parkway and Six Mile Cypress in south Fort Myers. All three of the area locations will be operated by franchisees Wallace and Samantha Nelms, who could not be reached for comment.

Founded in 2006 in Duck, North Carolina, the Outer Banks town for which it is named, the fast-growing chain features a menu of doughnuts, sandwiches, sundaes and coffee. The freshly fried cake doughnuts are finished with each customer’s choice of flavored icings, coatings such as powdered sugar, toppings such as chopped peanuts or shredded coconut, and drizzles such as hot fudge, marshmallow and salted caramel. Featured flavors include creations such as key lime icing with graham cracker crumbs; chocolate icing with Oreo cookie crumbles; and maple icing with crumbled bacon.
Tipsy Salonbar has 11 locations in Florida, with another 15 coming soon. In addition to Naples, another Southwest Florida location is planned in Daniels Marketplace, the Whole Foods Market-anchored shopping center at the northwest corner of Daniels and Six Mile Cypress parkways in south Fort Myers.
The concept was launched by four siblings in the Nguyen family, all of whom have medical backgrounds. The Tipsy name was coined by Tuan Nguyen, a 10-year Naples resident and a hospitalist in a private group serving all hospitals in the area.
“At first we were a nail salon with bar services. We started to include hair services and med spa services,” Nguyen said. “Our biggest thing that stands us apart from other places is the manicure bar.”
The project will be the second new outparcel to open this year in Park Shore Plaza. Yard House, a Darden Restaurant casual concept with more than 100 beers on tap, launched in January at the site of the former Chili’s Bar & Grill front and center in the plaza on U.S. 41.
