Arkansas ranks in the bottom 11 states in terms of the “economic clout” of women-owned businesses, according to the 2018 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report commissioned by American Express. (Eleven states were included because of ties.)

The report defines economic clout as the growth in the number of women-owned businesses and growth in employment and revenue.

The report, released in August, defined women-owned businesses as those that are at least 51 percent owned, operated and controlled by one or more women.

The report found that the number of women-owned businesses in the United States grew 58 percent between 2007 and 2018, while all businesses grew only 12 percent.
